This week, our school has come together to mark Remembrance Day, a time when we pause to honour the service and sacrifice of all those who have defended our freedoms and protected our way of life.
To share our respect with the wider community, our staff and students have created a beautiful and thought-provoking display at the front of the school. We invite all our parents, carers, and local residents to view it as you pass by.
Our display is made up of a stunning collection of poppies. These poppies have been crafted from recycled bottle tops. This creative idea has produced a powerful and visually striking tribute.
We are incredibly proud of the collaboration and respect our students and staff have shown in creating this display.
Why Poppies?
Poppies are widely used as the main symbol of remembrance because these flowers grew in abundance on the battlefields of World War I.
It is said that the heavy bombardment of artillery brought their dormant seeds to the surface. The high levels of calcium and nitrogen in the ground then allowed the poppies to flourish.
The bright red poppies stood out in an otherwise barren landscape.
